Summary
Bonn, 18th century. Little Ludwig van Beethoven shows an early gift, pushed by a musician father. But one day young Franz, son of Count Kreuzstein, strikes him on the ear: he hates anything called Ludwig, since the cry of a peacock named Ludwig caused, he believes, his mother's death.
From then on Beethoven's ear fails him at times, and Franz keeps crossing his path to torment him. The story follows the composer's rise, from Bonn to Vienna, and breaks off with Tezuka's death.

Trivia
- Tezuka often drew while listening to classical music at full volume, and Beethoven was his favourite composer; Walt Disney was also among the candidates for a biography after Buddha [1].
- The film Amadeus (1984) influenced him, down to the shortened title; a line of Mozart's about beginners who only bring what comes easily to them reflects what Tezuka thought of young cartoonists [1].
